“ทุกแรงกิริยาย่อมมีแรงของปฏิกิริยาซึ่งมีขนาดเท่ากันแต่มีทิศตรงกันข้ามเสมอ” กฏข้อนี้เรียกว่า กฏของกิริยาและ ปฏิกิริยา(Law of action and reaction) แรงกิริยาและ แรงปฏิกิริยา หมายถึง แรงกระทำ และแรงกระทำตอบ โดยเป็นแรงซึ่งกระทำต่อมวลที่ต่างกัน และเกิดขึ้นพร้อมกันเป็นคู่เสมอ โดยที่มวลไม่อาจสัมผัสกัน และถือว่าแรงหนึ่งแรงใด เป็นแรงกิริยาและ แรงปฏิกิริยาก็ได้

"Every action has an equal and opposite reaction." This rule is called the Law of Action and Reaction. Action and reaction forces refer to forces that act and react on different masses simultaneously as a pair, without the masses coming into direct contact with each other. Either force can be considered the action force or the reaction force.
