- - - - - สุรชัย หรือชัย เรียนคณะศิลปกรรมศาสตร์ สาขาการออกแบบนิเทศศิลป์ มหาวิทยาลัยราชภัฏสวนสุนันทา สุรชัย เริ่มเข้ามาสู่วงการละครเมื่อปี 2550 ในฐานะนักแสดงคณะพระจันทร์เสี้ยวการละคร จากนั้นก็อยู่ในวงการละครเรื่อยมา ส่วนใหญ่หน้าที่ ที่ได้รับคือ นักแสดง และการออกแบบศิลป์ สุรชัย เริ่มเข้าสู่วงการ การทำหุ่นโดยการเข้าร่วมเวิร์กชอบที่จัดขึ้นโดย Arts on location ที่นำเอาการเวิร์กชอบ object theatre โดย Sue Buckmaster, the Artistic Director of Theatre Rites(UK). หลังจากนั้น สุรชัยจึงได้นำเทคนิคที่ได้จากการเวิร์กชอบ มากำกับละครหุ่นผสมผสานเรื่องแรก คือ เจ้าชายน้อย, การผจญภัยของหุ่นกระป๋องติ๊กตอก, และคุณลุงกระต่ายขาว นอกจากจะผลิตหุ่นที่ตนเองกำกับแล้ว สุรชัย ยังผลิตหุ่นเพื่อโปรดักชั่นอื่นๆด้วย (โดยเฉพาะหุ่นที่มีขนาดใหญ่) เช่น การผจญภัยของสุดสาคร, The Fishy clound, และ The Little Shop of Horrors (หลายเวอร์ชั่น) Surachai or Chai has studied in the faculty of Fine and Applied Arts. In 2007, he has first started his career in the theatrical field, primarily as an actor or a designer. His puppetry path has begun afterwards, as he had attended “Object Theatre” workshop by Sue Buckmaster, the Artistic Director of Theatre-Rites (UK). Inspired by the English puppet master, Chai has decided to create his own works. After that, he directed the three full productions of puppet theatre: “The little Prince” (2015), “The Adventures of Tik-Tok Man of Oz” (2016) and “The White Rabbit” (2017). Puppetry also had a great influence on his other theatre productions that he directed, to illustrate, he added and adapted some techniques or elements of puppets into a play called “HOME” in 2016. Currently, Chai is a professional puppeteer who expertises in puppet mechanism and giant puppets working for his own productions and others’ production. “I created my workpieces through combination of arts, science, technology and lifestyle. I'm passionate about living through the breath of arts,both crafts and designs. I admire modern art pieces that is based on charms of ancient lifestyle.” I am particularly interested in the concept of simplicity and the idea of unifying with nature according to the context of Zen Buddhism which inspire me to telling story about the ‘death’ and the nature of it. Most of people are afraid of death and avoid to talk about it. Accordingly, I have got an idea to present the ‘death’ through a performer who died unexpectedly and two puppets of crane birds. Throughout the play, the performer and the audience will be brought to gradually accept the departure and learn the nature of the death, together.
