We start in 1998 with friends and colleagues who work in the independent theatre field. WILLING to create theatre production which can called our own, 8X8 theatre focus on contemporary or universal theme which must can be link to nowadays and the most important is to connect to the audiences daily life.
Now we have 9 permanent members, Nikorn is a founder and director of the group, the others 6 are promising actors and plus 2 artistic designers (costume, props, set and lighting).
In 2005 we are the pioneer of the independent theatre in Thailand who start running a theatre space in a (townhouse). 8X8 Corner is a 30-40 seats theatre of our own. This space inspire our theatre friends to start their owns. Now unluckily we have to close the space due to the landlord requirement. But still we continue many project, life is going on and on.
Each year 8X8 will open the workshop call “Embryo Workshop” (All of 8X8 actor member pass through this workshop) to teach and find the new generation who really want to work in theatre field as a job not a hobby. The workshop will be free but the participants must devote time for at least 2 months to join the workshop.
Most of the work by 8x8 theatre are praising by the critics and the audiences. With the formula of physical and minimalist presentation and the most important is good stories. The style is not important than the issue or story and theme to tell. We do whatever that work to communicate our messages to the world.
